Homes for sale in the Minnetonka School District (ISD 272) are highly desirable. Much of the allure is due to Minnetonka’s investment education. Their facilities are top notch and teacher to student ratios are low. In Metro area standardized test rankings, Minnetonka students are #1 in math and a close second to Edina in reading.
The Class of 2012 posted an impressive 25.3 ACT college placement exam out of a possible 36. Minnetonka’s top 100′s average score was 31.9 and the top 200 score was 27.8. The State lead the nation with a score of 22.8. composite average. 80% of the students go on to college. The Physics Bowl Team took 1st place at the four‐state competition and the Supermileage team won State with a car that averaged 686 miles per gallon!
There are options for both Spanish and Chinese immersion in grades K-6 and there are programs that are fined tuned to assist disabled or gifted children.
Be careful when searching for homes in ISD 276. Many home buyers are confused by the fact that 40% of homes in Minnetonka are in the Hopkins School District and that homes in Excelsior, Shorewood, and parts of Eden Prairie and Chanhassen are in the Minnetonka School District.

Homes in the ISD 272 prices are remarkably resilient not just because of the fine school system but also because many of them are situated on or near Lake Minnetonka which is the premier lake in the region. Expect to pay considerably more for a home on the lake or with lake access. Downtown Deephaven and Excelsior are especially charming as well. You will find many great places to shop, eat, or attend numerous festivals and the home prices near those downtowns reflect how much fun you would have living close by.
You won’t find a lot of new home listed in the Minnetonka School District because it has been built out but there are pockets of 4-10 new homes, vacant lots here and there, and many older properties are being ripped down and replaced with homes worth $800,000+ that builders like Steeter & Associates, Boyer, Gonyea, and Pernsteiner are developing.
Research other public schools.
